Sir Walter Raleigh described the Associated Shades as "the swellest organization in all of Hades." In the richly appointed rooms of their headquarters, a houseboat on the River Styx, Francis Bacon and William Shakespear argue over who wrote "Hamlet", P.T. Barnum takes Noah to task for not loading dinosaurs onto the Ark, George Washington hosts dinners for the greatest generals in all of history, and Cleopatra and Elizabeth I fight for women's rights. Meanwhile, Charon makes sure everyone has plenty of ice for their drinks and riff-fraff like Captains Morgan and Kidd are kept out.

Houseboat on the River Styx condenses and combines John Kendrick Bangs' classic humorous fantasy books A House-Boat on the River Styx and In Pursuit of the House-Boat<...

THE DEVIL'S MUSIC PROMOTERS!

During a jam session in the afterlife, John Lennon, Jon Bonham, John Denver, Johnny Cash, and John Philip Sousa hear that another talentless band is about to sell their souls to Satan for fame and fortune. The five Johns decide that enough is enough, and they set out to kick the demonic soul traders back to the rings of fire.

ROLF!: Fugue for Johns in D Major is a return to the bizarre world of A Houseboat on the River Styx where deceased celebrities adventure with fictional characters. This battle scenario stand alone, however, requiring only a version of ROLF!: The Rollplaying Game, at least one other gamer, and a sense of humor to play. (Wanting to battle demon...

Happy death-day (and birthday) Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart!(January 27, 1756 - December 5, 1791)

It was a nice day when Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart joined Jimi Hendrix, Michael Jackson, and Ophelia on the bank of the River Styx practice Mozart's latest composition. But things turned sour when Tiny Tim and the Three Sirens picked that moment to take revenge for Mozart not inviting them to work with him.

Serenade for Sirens in G Major is a ROLF! combat scenario set in John Kendrick Bangs' world of Houseboat on the River Styx that sees Jimi Hendrix and Michael Jackson square off in musical combat against Tiny Tim and the Three Sirens... with a special appearance by Ophelia on ...

ROLF: The Associated Shades of Hades
Regular price: $1.00
Bundle price:
 $0.50
Format:
 Watermarked PDF

The Associated Shades of Hades is a social club whose members are, generally speaking, refined and civilized in their behavior; one would expect nothing else from a group that includes such famous figures as George Washington, Confucious, and Sherlock Holmes. But sometimes, tempers flare, witty banter fails, and out come the knives, pistols, and pool cues.

ROLF!: The Associated Shades of Hades is a supplement inspired by John Kendrick Bangs' classic tales of Hades (also available from NUELOW Games, in Houseboat on the River Styx). Now Shakespeare and Bacon settle the question of who wrote "Hamlet" with violence of the most savage kind, while Cleopatra beats the stuffing out of Captain Kidd just because she feels like it.

ROLF: The Rollplaying Game of Big Dumb Fighters
Regular price: $1.75
Bundle price:
 $0.75
Format:
 Watermarked PDF

When you just want to beat up on your friends without actually hurting them, ROLF! is the game to turn to. With quick character generation and a fast-moving combat system, it's a silly little game that puts the die-rolling in roll-playing games. With this game, you really get what you pay for!

Designed by Steve Miller (formerly of West End Games, TSR and a few other bankrupt RPG publishers) and L.L. Hundal (formerly of nowhere, because she's much too smart to enter game design on a professional level), this is the perfect game to pass the time while waiting for late-comers to arrive for the RPG session... or while you've been kicked out of the room, because the GM and another player or two are engaged in some secretive, story-based roleplaying nonsense.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
